What a Great Day!

What an amazing day at the beach today! The weather was sunny, hot and humid. Just the way I like it. Can it get any better than this? I don’t think so.

Had my lunch with me, a huge iced coffee and a beach towel. What else do I need? Nothing. A short drive from home and I’m in heaven. I couldn’t ask for a better day.

Look at that scene. It’s a comfortable, lazy, quiet beach. Drink it in. Savor it. You can see the heat rising up off the sand into that beautiful blue sky. Breathe in deep and exhale. Slowly breathe in the ocean air. Let it out. Repeat.

Well, I have to interrupt this to say April Fool! It’s cloudy, cold and raining outside, and north of where I live they’re expecting a big snowstorm.

Enjoy your day!

More Snow, Again

The warm, spring weather we had last week was fun while it lasted. Well, whaddaya know? More snow! Yup, I said it, more snow. Take a look at the view from my backyard garden.

It’s looks pretty, but it’s very annoying. Especially since I was caught off guard and had no idea this was coming. When I heard there would be inches I flipped!

This huge pine tree is in my neighbor’s yard, but just on our border. Of course, the huge branches hover over my yard and the azaleas that I love. If one of those big arms snap off the azaleas are in trouble and our electric, cable, phone would all be out. If this was my tree I’d bring it down. It’s just too big and dangerous. But, alas, it’s the neighbor’s responsibility and he’s annoying so I’m not saying anything about it. Every winter I imagine this thing landing on my patio room and maybe then I would have to remodel. I dream big, don’t I?

In the meanwhile it’s still standing. As I’m looking at this photo it seems to me my fence looks like it’s leaning over. I better go out there and take a look if it really is leaning or it’s my camera angle. Looks scary.

Photos for Friday

While quite obviously this snowstorm was one big kick in the butt, certain aspects of it were very beautiful. If I didn’t have to go out and shovel, it would have been spectacular, but such was not the case.
Trying to throw the snow up over the mountain we had to make to get out of our house was no fun.

As Gorgeous said, Feel the burn! Yeah, I was feeling it alright. I had a full body workout without the gym equipment. Just me against my snow shovel with Mother Nature as the personal trainer.

For a moment the sun poked itself through the clouds to shine with great warmth on my face. As if to say, Don’t worry, I’m still here.

I will be waiting.

Snow Day, Sort of

The big blowout snowstorm we were supposed to experience looked like this by 6A.M. Okay, so around six inches fell. After the last blizzard two weeks ago, this was nothing. All the hoopla of the unplowed streets in NYC, the stranded drivers and mass transit riders, the cancelled air flights, and whatever else was not evident in this latest storm. Every one got so excited that schools were being closed before the storm even began, except for the city schools. No vacation for the city schools. Nope.

I had a couple of items to pick up at the supermarket and it was as if we were going to be snowed in for two weeks. People stripped the shelves of all milk, eggs, meats, and bread. Come on people, what’s going to happen that you need that much food? This is a snow storm not the end of the world as we know it. Get a grip! What’s wrong with people? Anyone ever hear about keeping a stocked pantry for such occasions when getting out of the house might be impossible for a day? Please.

This kind of stuff makes my head hurt. I had no idea we were even going to have any snow. I usually don’t watch television during the day. It’s bad enough I get distracted by things that keep me from painting. When I saw the long lines at the supermarket I was in shock.

Gorgeous is a teacher in the NYC school system and had to go to work this morning. Son #1 was told by his office to work from home so he is watching The Princess, and Son #2 was notified his office was opening later. Of course, adventure seeker that he is, The Mr. was out there at 6 A.M. shoveling the cars out of the snow so he could get to work. By hook or by crook, he was going! He’s a little nutty like that. To him, this is an adventure. He’ll return tonight to tell us how the roads were, who was stuck, if there were accidents, alot of excitement to be found out there.

I will be staying in. Yeah, I peeked out to snap the picture, but other than that I plan to get some things done. Hopefully, painting will be one of them. I trying to decide if I should take up a challenge some other artists/bloggers are doing called 100 Paintings. If I do, today might be #1. I’ll let you know what happens with that.

Could it be Spring?

This is the last of the snow in front of my house.  I’m keeping my fingers crossed and asking the Universe to please melt it quick and send any to someplace else, not here, please.  Look, I know this is New York, and we’re supposed to have four seasons, winter among them, but come on!  This winter has been ridiculous with  snowfall after snowfall.  I can be a bit of a hermit, but after a while cabin fever does set in on the best of us cave lovers.  And I love my cave.  Tell me to stay home and I’m loving it.  A blizzard?  Great day to stay in and bake, cook up something hot and good.  The electricity is going to go out?  Break out the candles and play Scrabble!  We huddle in the candlelight and tell each other stories with the fireplace lit.  No problem for me.

Unless…it’s every other day.  Then I can’t do anything.  Stuck.  The choice to venture out or stay in is the thing.  If one day is a disaster, but the next you can get out and do your thing, it’s fine.  If that continues day in and day out you can get a little crazy.

Springtime in New York is beautiful weather, when we have a spring time.  Some years we have two days of spring-like weather and then Boom! the summer hits.  You won’t hear me complaining.  Summer is real good, even better, in my opinion.  Bring on the heat and the humidity, I’m ready!  The hotter the better.  I’m not comfortable until the weather is in the 90’s and I’m dripping.  Good excuse to visit the beach or be out in my garden. The colors of the flowers in spring and summer are at their best.  I try to fill my garden with the brightest, deepest colors I can find.  And I need fragrance.  Strongly scented roses, spicy butterfly blush, hyacinth and daffodils, and others I can’t remember.  I just need to smell the fresh air mingled with flowers.  Even freshly cut grass is an amazing aroma. Yeah, I like the warmer days.

I just can’t wait for spring and summer.  Bring it!

Snow Day and an Artist’s Date

Last week the forecasters were predicting a snowstorm that never happened.  You know how everyone hears the words “winter storm warning in effect” and they run to buy milk and bread?  What’s with that?  Is everyone working with an empty refrigerator, or at the slightest idea of some snow they need to stock up with a month’s load of food?  Please people!
The weather guys were correct with their snow predictions this time.  As usual, I’m fine in the food department. They’re expecting blizzard conditions this afternoon, but so far there was only three inches on the ground by 8AM.  Thankfully, I have no where to be but at home and that’s where I’m staying!

Mostly I like being home alone, but being snowed in is even better.  There’s no way you can go anywhere, no idea of going out except to shovel, and it’s a freeing feeling. I have big plans for my day in! First another pot of hot coffee. Then, I may bake some muffins from a new recipe I found. Later I might put on a Bach CD I bought a little while ago and draw with some pastels. If there’s more snow I’ll take more photos of it.
The possibilities are endless and exciting!  Definitely an Artist’s Date kind of day.  Isn’t funny that I’m so excited to be snowed in I have all these ideas of things I can do?  I should be like this every day, thinking which art thing to do first. We humans are weird people. And we artists? Ok, I won’t say it.
